Ruixin sharpening kit review

My first choice for creating an edge, and sharpening my knives was the Ruixin Pro sharpening kit.
The following post is my own opinion, based on my experience with this product. Unfortunately I have had no idea of starting this blog when I bought this system, therefore I have no pictures of it on my own.

You gotta love this sharpening angle :D:D

Well... As it tends to happen with the most of the "el cheapo" products, this very quickly became an expensive sharpening kit. Why? Because I had to buy a good one after trying this one.

Pro's of Ruixin Pro sharpening kit:
  • It is (somewhat) cheap
  • Very easy to find extra/replacement stones online (Aliexpress, etc)
  • It is made of metal, and is easy to assemble
  • There it was, just about all good things in 3 bulletpoints
  • I had to create a 5th bullet point, to make it look a very good product :D:D
 
Well, call me bad, but read the box... You can observe the quality already on the box...

 Con's of Ruixin Pro sharpening kit:

  •  You dont know, at what degree you will sharpen your knife.
  • Even if you manage to find a suitable angle, you'll never be able to repeat it, so you'll have to redo the edge of your knife every time.
  • Fastenig the knife in the tool is a pain in the a**. The screws are'nt able to firmly hold the knife in place for the time of the sharlening. It tends to move with every stroke you make.
  • The stones, that came in the box are very weak. The O-1 tool steel blade on my Delta knife ate it. the fine sand of the stone was flying around. After creating the shape of the edge, you could see where the stone met the knife. (yes, I used it wet.)
Unfortunately for me, I have no pictures on of this device, and I canot make any, since I have tossed it out to the garbage after I used it on the Delta.

Not too surprisingly, I had a total different experience with the Lansky Sharpening Tool 5 Stone Pofessional LKCPR, combined with the Lansky Universal Mount Sharpening System LM009. It did hell of a job on my Visag gut hook knife.

Hi there, havent been around for a while, have been psychologizing a lot, not leaving any time for my dear hobby. Since I managed to get away for a few hours only, I forgot to make enough pics. Since it is made from a 3mm thick material, it should take abuse (wood chopping/splitting, camping use, etc.) pretty easy. I know, lot of people in the US enjoy thicker blades, like 5mm+ (0.196 inches), but I believe, for a regular use, 3mm should be just fine. Glow in the dark GITD Micarta!?!?

In the last few weeks I have been experimenting with some 15mm thick wood.  A beautyful, heavy, but very brittle, partially treated exotic hardwood, originally made for wooden floor. Won this GITD powder just today. Cant wait to have it in my hands. I dont know, if I mentioned it before, but this wood I have is hmmm... VERY brittle. Every and each time I try shaping it to a knife handle, it just cracks, and snaps. I have already ruined a 12x50cm board. So I got pretty much fed up with it by now. Some say I should steam it, to make it softer, but then I'm afraid, that the glue would not stick to it. I have this idea for a few weeks now, to make a GITD knife handle. But not the easy, "Buy a pair of Kirinite GITD knife scales!" way. I am rather thinking of making a canvas micarta, where I'd put some (A LOT:) glow in the dark (GITD) powder in the laminting resin. Heat treat oven - electric

Making my DIY heat treat kiln I started this build back in summer 2016 by buying all the necessary parts for the kiln: Close to finish Bill of materials: Heating element (wire coil, 80cm long, 5mm thick, rated 3.500W)  PID Controller: Rex C100 + 1.250C K-type thermocouple Solid State Relay (SSR, 25Amp) Aluminum heat sink for SSR Old PC fan and box 1.200C for the top, bottom and the door of the kiln, theese bricks will not touch the heating element 1.500C for the walls, theese will incorporate the heating wire Some angle iron (40x40x2mm) Door hinges  Basic layout of DIY heat treat kiln Basic layout I started assembling the core of the kiln. I used a Dremel 566 attachment to shape the groove, accomodating the heating element.
